Memorial Day Weekend 2017

The taste of summer doesn't get any sweeter than when we hear the words Memorial Day Weekend. Initiating the mindset of summer and all the fun that comes with it, especially living in (arguably) one of the best areas in Los Angeles. Wether you want to get out of town for the long weekend or just kick off the summer in style, we put together a couple of ideas for you.

1. Palm Springs

At a little over two hours, this is the easiest of the get aways in all of Los Angeles. Palm Springs is a magically hot place where palm trees sway and golf is played. If you're looking for a great family getaway, then Palm Springs is your place. Personally we love to recommend staying at the La Quinta Resort  and lounging by the pool. Enjoy everything from hiking or golfing in the early morning to incredible restaurants at night. If you're in the mood for Mexican food make sure to try our favorite Las Casuelas for refreshing margaritas and all the chips and salsa you can dream of.

2. Mammoth LAKES

Take the scenic Route 395 and you'll have a view of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountain range for most of this gorgeous drive. When you hit Big Pine, stop for a bite at Copper Top BBQ, a bright red smoke shack that serves piping-hot ribs and tri-tips. You may end up befriending some hungry alpine climbers headed to or from Mount Whitney (the highest point in the contiguous U.S. at 14,505 feet!). Take a small detour east to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, home to the oldest trees in the world; some of these beauties have been around for more than 4,000 years. Farther north, stop in Bishop for some fresh-baked loaves or pastries at Erik Schat's Bakery. Drive up the road to Mahogany Smoked Meats and choose some road snacks from a huge selection of gourmet beef, turkey, elk, buffalo, boar and fish jerkies. Though there's no formal address, if you're determined (or willing to ask a local), you can find a group of easily-accessible hot springs right off the 395, just south of Mammoth Yosemite airport. 3. Fiesta Hermosa

Looking to stay in the area? Enjoy the annual Fiesta Hermosa in Hermosa Beach which boasts carnival rides, kiddie carnival,  food courts, tribute band concerts and more. This truly is the definition of the kick off for summer in the South Bay. Fiesta Hermosa takes place Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day Memorial Day weekend. The annual festival is located in downtown Hermosa Beach on Pier Plaza, Hermosa Avenue and lower Pier Avenue.

4. La La Land in Concert

Spend an evening at the iconic Hollywood Bowl as "La La Land" starts to take its show on the road. Watch the movie and sing a-long while the orchestra performs and you enjoy a beautiful night. Although Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone will not be there to soothe your ear drums, their vocals will be. Make sure to get your tickets before they sell out here.
